With all Athletics Equipment, the IAAF and UKA will set the minimum specifications that competition equipment has to meet. However, it is then up to the manufacturer to improve the products performance to be better than those that just meet with the standards. Focusing specifically on High Jump Stands and High Jump Mats, these are a few key features to look our for.
1. THE BASE
The base of the high jump stand is what keeps the stands upright. To keep it simple, the more sturdy the base, the less likely the stand is to fall over. We always offer high jump stands with a ‘T’ section base made from heavy duty box section metal that is the most sturdy option without impacting on the run up. We would recommend avoiding small ‘flimsy’ bases that aren’t fit for purpose.
2. THE HIGH JUMP POLE REST
Although at competition level, the IAAF set the size and position of the rest so all are the same. However, with the training and lower level models, this is open to interpretation with some poorly constructed models available from other suppliers. We ensure that our rests are solid, of sufficient size and sit in-line with the upright so that it is fixed to the height adjuster with maximum strength.
3. HEIGHT ADJUSTER SETTINGS
The height adjuster needs to run smoothly and fix tight to the uprights at every height level. It will be moved on multiple occasions, on every use so needs to be of the highest standards. In particular, our ARH high jump stands run on plastic runners to give un-rivalled smooth movement plus tighten onto the upright with a specially designed plastic bush to leave the upright free from marks (which can easily happen if the thumb screw bolt tightens to the upright).
All of our ARH high jump standards can be calibrated at any given time due to the read out point curser. This is particularly helpful even with the schools model when a un-even floor may in used as to schools their records are nearly as important to world records.
1 .SHAPE AND DIMENSIONS
With high jump mats so readily available, the days of stacked up crash mats are numbered as they can be quite dangerous as they are not fixed together. We offer options from Olympic level right through to a basic custom designed schools mat which are safe to use.
2 .REPUTABLE SUPPLIER
There are only a handful of manufacturers of high jump mats in the UK and its important that the mat that is bought has been made by one of them. All of the reputable manufacturers are members of the relevant trade associations which means they are all making products to a high standard. Stadia Sports are one of these manufacturers.
3.SPIKE PROOF COVER
All landing areas, particularly any that will be used by athletes with spiked shoes need to ensure there high jump mat comes with a spike proof cover which Stadia Sports supply as standard. Without the spike proof cover, the top cover of the bed won’t last very long.
